According to "NFC News", over 100 million NFC smartphones will be
sold in 2012. That equals approximately 1/3 of the entire population of the USA. When compared with the world wide population of over 7 billion, that may not seem like a big deal, but this is more than double the 40 million NFC enabled handsets that shipped in 2011. (Balaban, 2011) If the number of NFC enabled phones continues doubling, 1/7 of the world population will have an NFC enabled phone in just 5 years.
